Case Study
Valley Pack Cold Storage
The Project
Valley Pack Cold Storage provides cold storage and international logistics services to producers of perishable commodities. As the Melbourne based business is growing, they required a new facility to be built beside the existing premises at Shepparton, Victoria.
The Challenge
The primary goal for Valley Pack was to build multiple Controlled Atmosphere (CA) and freezer rooms with a hermetic seal and in accordance with FM Approved building standards to meet insurance requirements.
Controlled Atmosphere rooms otherwise known as CA rooms are required to be 100% airtight to allow for the concentrations of oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen, as well as the temperature and humidity to be regulated.
The Solutions
Using a FM approved panel system, and built in compliance with FM standard’s were the keys to the success of this project. In the very early stages of development, Valley Pack liaised with the ASKIN Engineering, Design and Drafting teams to assist with designing a building that met their needs, while ensuring correct and conforming building products were specified.
ASKIN manufactured and supplied 5000m2 XFLAM Interior walls and ceilings. ASKIN’s XFLAM Panel with its superior joining system and stable R Values meant CA room standards was achieved.
Richardson Coolrooms installed the panel, as per ASKIN’s design which incorporated compliance with IPCA, NCC and FM.
The Results
Valley Pack now has fully operational Cold Storage facility to meet the demand of their clients. The CA rooms and load in and load out areas means there is no break in the cold chain from storage, distribution through to the supermarket shelf.
Using a conforming building product combined with design and a quality installation is absolute paramount to achieving compliance with the guidelines of an FM Approved building system.
